Research Focus of the Lab
The lab’s research focuses on selective attention, working memory, and cognitive control, which are the building blocks of all cognitively complex behaviour and thought. We study the nature of the representations and psychological processes that underpin attention, memory, and action, examining these issues within the context of information processing that includes inhibitory control in attention and memory. A key area of interest is bilingual language representation and processing. In these studies, we explore patterns of unilingual versus cross-language priming in bilingual individuals, making inferences about the nature and organization of language representation in memory. Recent research also investigates the interplay between language of education and learning outcomes among children in lower primary school.
In addition to this foundational research, our lab is dedicated to developing personalised interventions that improve learning outcomes. We recognise that effective interventions must be tailored to the unique needs of each individual. By examining factors such as language of instruction, cognitive development across different age groups, and bilingualism, we design interventions that support both academic achievement and socio-emotional growth. Through these interventions, we aim to help children and young adults reach their full potential in education and beyond.
